Dating from the 10th Century the château originally belonged to the Seigneur of Céret until it fell into ruin. French artist and founder of Céret's modern art museum, Pierre Brune, bought the property in 1916 and set about building himself a home using the original stones of the chateau and incorporating certain internal walls etc (over 1 metre thick); in 1919 the house was finished and Pierre Brune began welcoming his artist friends to the property (Picasso, Soutine, Krémègne, Masson, Loutreuil...) when they visited Céret having established the Fauvist and Cubist movements in the town the decade before.

The property sits immediately above Céret and benefits magnificent views across the town to the north, down to the Mediterranean in the east, across the Albères hills and cherry fields to the south and then up the Vallespir valley to Mt Canigou in the west.

Comprising approximately 300m2 of living space the property really would benefit from a full and thorough refresh. Currently it offers: an entrance hall with doors leading out to terraces on both the northern and southern sides, a separate kitchen, lounge / dining area, north-facing artist's studio with enormous picture window. Upstairs there are five double bedrooms, a single bedroom and a family bathroom. There is gas central heating.

The property sits in a plot of approx. 5,000m2 (1¼ acres) which is mainly comprised of terraced gardens and woodland; a flat parcel of approx. 1,500m2 at the town end of the property is potentially constructible. The property is not listed and could be extended subject to planning permission.
